What does it look like practically for the gospel to shape your specific work?
Content like my devotionals, books, and podcasts can help you connect the gospel to your work; but only Christian community can help you apply the gospel to your work.
Let me explain why.
When I write a book like The Sacredness of Secular Work or a new devotional series, I create that content for all âmere Christians,â whether youâre an entrepreneur, a barista, or a manager in a large company.
Given how wide my audience is, my content can only be so practical. It can help you make a mental connection between a biblical truth and your job (EX: âI am called to âvalue others above myselfâ including my co-workersâ), but it can only go so far in helping you with application. Because if youâre a manager of a team, youâre going to have very different questions than a barista about how to apply that biblical truth. Questions like:
- Does valuing others above myself mean that I only advocate for raises for my team and not myself?
- What do I need to change about the way I use email so that I can better serve my team members?
- How do I Sabbath in a way that creates rest not just for myself but also my colleagues?
There are no one-size-fits-all answers to these questions. Answering them well requires gospel-centered discernment in a community of mere Christians who:
- Already understand that their work matters to GodÂ
- Are asking deeper questions about how to apply the gospel to their work
- Can help you answer similar questions because they share your career stage and role
Community like that is incredibly hard to find. Which is why I created the Mere Christians Community: to help you more deeply apply the gospel to your specific work alongside other believers in your vocational field.

Groups meet every other Thursday. Take your pick from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. or 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. EST. Can't make a call? No worries! Every call is recorded for you to watch later on.
Yes! Everything that’s offered live in the community is also archived for you to watch later on, including Vocational Small Group meetings, Office Hours, Backstage Pass, and Book Club discussions.
Nothing! Here’s the deal: Nobody is going to have perfect attendance to a meeting that occurs twice a month. Your group will have grace with your absence just as I’m sure you’ll have grace with them!
